Online is now closed as we prepare for this event. If you still wish to race, please click on pdf below and print out paper registraiton, fill out completely, and show up at the race site this Friday between 6:00am and 8:00pm. Cash only accepted.

There will also be onsite registration allowed on race morning between 5:15am and 6:30am, however, space may be limited as it is encouraged to register in advance on Friday evening.

This race is a beneficiary for the Dragonfly Heart Camp situated in Kent County, MD.  

Consider having your kids join you for the next day's youth triathlon at same venue.  Be sure to check under Escape from School Youth Series.

Wetsuit Rule
All Piranha Sports events will allow wetsuits if the water temperature is 78 degrees or less.  Water temperatures are taken on race morning.

In the event the water temperature is 79 degrees or higher, no wetsuits will be allowed.

ABSOLUTELY NO SWIMMING IN RIVER PRIOR TO EVENT AS NO LIFEGUARDS ARE ON DUTY

If you violate any of these rules, you will be banned from the race and no refund will be issued.

    Course Description

    Swim - 1/4 mile - triathlon - in water start
     

    • Expected water temperature around 75 degrees.  Wetsuits allowed and optional if water temperature is 78 degrees or less taken on race morning.  Come prepared with a wetsuit just in case.
    • Swim Cut Off Rule.  All participants are expected to be able to complete the swim discipline maintaining a steady consistent stroke and able to maintain on course.  Lifeguards are provided for emergency situations and to prevent swimmers from drowning.  Any swimmer who is in constant need of aid from lifeguards along the swim is considered to be a hazard to themselves and other swimmers and has not prepared properly for the race (this includes breaks, and redirection on course).  If a lifeguard at any point feels an athlete is taking too much attention, the lifeguard reserves the right to remove the athlete from the race.  This removal will result in a DNF (Did Not Finish) from the entire race (the athlete will not be allowed to compete in the bike or run) at which point athlete must hand in their timing chip to lifeguard or designated staff person. 

    Bike - 12 miles - Flat and Fast.

    • Exit TA at Wilmer Park
    • Left onto Quaker Neck Road/Route 289
    • Left onto Old Town Road
    • Left onto Quaker Neck Landing Road
    • Right onto Quaker Neck Road/Route 289
    • Right back into TA at Wilmer Park

    Run - 2.5 miles - final leg.  Out and back course. 

    • Stay to the left of each other.  Mostly paved road.
    • Exit TA at Wilmer Park onto Water Street
    • Left onto Cannon Street
    • Left onto S. Mill Street
    • Right onto Rails to Trail Path
    • U-turn before High Street
    • Head back in same direction with finish near TA at Wilmer Park

    From Philadelphia and Wilmington:
                  I-95 south to 896 south (exit 1, Middletown, Delaware.) DE 896 turns into MD route 301. Right on MD 290 (exit for Galena/ Chestertown.) From Galena, follow MD 213 south  to Chestertown.

    From Baltimore:
                  I-95 south to I-695 east to I-97 south to route 50 east across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge to MD 301 north. Exit MD 213 north (Centreville/Chestertown) to Chestertown.

    From Washington and Annapolis:
                  Route 50 east across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge to MD 301 north. Exit MD 213 north (Centreville /               Chestertown) to Chestertown.

    Race Itinerary

    Friday, July 20, 2012

    • 6:00pm-8:00pm - Early packet pickup at the Wilmur Park.  GPS address to Wilmer Park (race venue) is nearest 550 S. Cross Street, Chestertown, MD  21650.  Look for signs upon arriving in Chestertown.
    • 6:30pm - First Timers Meeting.  "Open to all registered participants."  This is an opportunity to review logistics of the race with a Piranha Sports staff member.  It will involve reviewing packets, chip timing, transition area, rules, and tips.
    • BRING YOUR BIKE AND HELMET for optional inspection at early packet pickup. 


    Saturday, July 21, 2012 - please note some slight changes to itinerary as we moved the youth triathlon on the same date and will have youths go first with adults following after the awards ceremony for the youths.

    • 5:15am - 6:30am - Packet Pickup and LAST MINUTE BIKE AND HELMET optional inspections.
    • 5:15am - 6:30am - Transition area opened.  GPS address to Wilmer Park (race venue) is nearest 550 S. Cross Street, Chestertown, MD  21650.  Look for signs upon arriving in Chestertown.
        Late packet pickup.  Body marking.
    • New This Year - Cheer the kids on at the Dragonfly Heart Youth Triathlon at 7:15am.  Posted on 7/11/12, the youth tri was moved to the same day as adult race. 
    • 7:00am - Mandatory pre-race meeting.
    • 7:05am - National Anthem.
    • The below wave assignments may be adjusted at the last minute.
    • 7:15am - Youth Triathlon Waves to go off.  Please note all youth triathletes may go off in one wave.
    • 7:15am - 13-14 Year Olds.  Pink Caps.
    • 7:18am - 11-12 Year Olds.  Green Caps.
    • 7:21am - 9-10 Year Olds.  Yellow Caps.
    • 7:24am - 7-8 Year Olds.  Orange Caps.
    • 7:45am - Post Race Awards for Youths. 
    • 8:00am - Start of first wave for Adult Triathlon.
    • 8:00am - All Adult Triathletes in one wave.  Blue Caps.
    • 10:00am - Official results posted.  This is your opportunity to review your own results.  Once awards ceremony begins, all results are final.
    • 10:15am - Post race party/awards.  Awards will not be mailed.
    • 10:15am - Transition area closed.

    Race director/management may alter any part or distance of the event as dictated by event day conditions, such as weather.

    Refund Policy
    No Refunds, No Tranfers, No Deferrals Under Any Circumstances.

    Absolutely NO refunds will be made for any reason. REFERRED TO AS “ENTRY FEES” ABOVE AND INCLUDES ENTRY FEES, PARTICIPANT SHIRTS, UPGRADED PRODUCTS, ANY OTHER AMENITIES, INSURANCE, AND ONLINE ADMINISTRATIVE FEES. MUST BE PRESENT TO RECEIVE ANY ITEMS as leftovers are distributed on day of race. WE DO NOT SHIP. ENTRY FEES CANNOT BE TRANSFERRED TO OTHER PERSONS OR APPLIED TOWARD future PIRANHA SPORTS EVENTS. Selling your race entry slot is strictly prohibited by piranha sports. If you do sell your race slot, you will be disqualified from the race and you, as well as the entrant who purchased your slot, will be unable to race in another Piranha Sports event for a minimum of 2 years. Piranha Sports reserves the right to reject any entry if a valid photo ID is not presented at race packet pick-up. There is NO rain date for the event. In cases of inclement weather, natural disaster, acts of God, acts of war or other unforeseen extraordinary circumstances, management reserves the right to cancel the event and/or modify the race course for safety concerns. Under such circumstances, there will be absolutely no refunds or transfer of entries to future Piranha Sports events. Each athlete must accept any such risk of their entry fee paid including other amenities paid for such as participate shirts, upgrade products, insurance, and online administrative fees. All monies collected are used to develop and produce the event, including all race supplies, staffing, and administration. We pledge to make every effort to produce a fair, safe and exciting event for all. Management reserves the right to reject or accept a race entry for any reason. By signing up for this race, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to the terms listed on this page.

    Spectator Information
    Wilmer Park and Chestertown, MD ~ offers a large field with ideal spectator areas for watching the swim, transition, bike start and finish as well as run start and finish. Bring the kids and make plans to spend the day in Chestertown such as browsing shops, boating, etc. 

    Parking

    Spectator (as well as athlete) parking is available on the streets of Chestertown except for on S. Cross Street and Route 289 which is part of the bike course.  More parking information to be posted. 

    Athlete Support
    Bring your cow bells, noise makers, posters, banners, and other items to cheer on your favorite athlete. Please keep in mind that spectators are not allowed to provide any outside assistance to the athletes. Outside assistance can result in penalties and possible disqualification. Outside assistance can include but is not limited to: transition area assistance, running or riding along with the athlete (pacing), handing off water bottles, etc. The Piranha Sports staff and volunteers will provide assistance as needed and allowed. As well, there will be no time during the event when spectators will be allowed in the secure transition area. If your athlete forgot an item for the transition area, please ask a Piranha Sports Staff member or volunteer to assist you in getting that item to the athlete.

    Spectator Control
    The Piranha Sports Staff and volunteers have your athlete’s safety and security as their primary responsibility. Therefore, there may be times during the course of the event that we will need to provide directions to spectators if we feel that the athletes do not have a clear and unobstructed path. Please pay close attention to these directions/instructions so that we are able to maintain the safety of every athlete.

    Kids and Dogs
    The Piranha Sports Staff loves having kids and dogs at the events. The kids are our future and the dogs are just great. If you do bring your children and/or pets, please keep a close eye on them. Do not allow them to venture onto any of the roadways particularly near the mount/dismount area. As well, if your children bring bikes, please ensure that they are wearing helmets at all times.

    Post Race Food
    Just as a reminder, the food and beverages provided by Piranha Sports are for athletes and volunteers only.

    Other Notes 
    Wilmur Park and Chestertown is a take-in/take-out policy is in effect. Please be sure to take all trash with you and help keep the park and City clean.
