Swim Warm-Up and Safety Clinic -

Sign up for this under Additional Options. Piranha Sports has teamed up with Triton Water Rescue, our lifeguard team, AND Bricks Coaching, our Series Coaching Sponsor. Rick Lill, certified lifeguard of Triton and Jess Manning, a Level II USAT Certified Coach of Bricks will be conducting this Swim Warm-Up and Safety Clinic. Following the first timers meeting on the day before, all aprticipants are offerred the opportunity to swim in the same water* they will compete in, learn proper etiquette in the water, and learn proper spotting methods. The intention of this clinic is to make sure that the swim the next day is as safe as possible, help create confidence in participants, and provide the opportunity to get a feel of the aquatic environment they will be racing in the next day. Cost: $15.00
*The swim area may be restricted as to ensure proper supervision for everyone's safety. Lifeguards and race director have full authority to establish swim zones, modify, or cancel as condition(s) and permits warrant. Any athlete who ignores the lifeguards', coach's, or race director's directions, will forfeit their race entry with no refunds.
12 Week Program
This 12-week training program has been designed to prepare you for the event, and has been prepared by Bricks MultiSport Coaching - www.bricksmultisport.com.
It will help provide you with the "Training, Tools & Tips™" necessary to get you where you want to be for your target event whether it be your first or fiftieth.

Race/Event Clinic
This clinic is scheduled for Saturday, October 6, 2012, 10am at Cape Henlopen State Park - parade field area. Taught and directed by experienced and certified coaches, and led by USAT Level II & Bricks MultiSport Head Coach, Jess Manning. Bricks MultiSport Race clinics are a hands-on, Get-Your-Hands-Dirty style of clinic designed to be interactive and get you ready to race!
Cost for the clinic is $60 ($150 value), runs approximately 2 - 2.5 hrs and comes with the following and many of these topics typically covered:
- Race strategy
- Gear options, selections, etc.
- Bike mounting/dismounting, pacing, cornering
- Rules, regulations, penalties, etc.
- Transition layout, skills & more

Swim - 1/4 mile - Ocean Swim

Beach Start. Ocean swim parallel to shore.

Expected water temperature around 70 degrees. Wetsuits allowed and optional if water temperature is 78 degrees or less taken on race morning. Come prepared with a wetsuit just in case.

Swim Cut Off Rule. All participants are expected to be able to complete the swim discipline maintaining a steady consistent stroke and able to maintain on course. Lifeguards are provided for emergency situations and to prevent swimmers from drowning. Any swimmer who is in constant need of aid from lifeguards along the swim is considered to be a hazard to themselves and other swimmers and has not prepared properly for the race (this includes breaks, and redirection on course). If a lifeguard at any point feels an athlete is taking too much attention, the lifeguard reserves the right to remove the athlete from the race. This removal will result in a DNF (Did Not Finish) from the entire race (the athlete will not be allowed to compete in the bike or run) at which point athlete must hand in their timing chip to lifeguard or designated staff person.

Once you approach the Lewes Ferry Terminal, continue on Route 9 East/South (Cape Henlopen Drive) past the Ferry terminal for about 1/2 mile into the entrance of Cape Henlopen State Park. Then follow signs to the Ocean bath house.

IMPORTANT: For Saturday Only - you will be required to pay State Park Fee to enter. You will be charged per vehicle at state rates of $4 instate, $8 out of state. Carpooling is encouraged. However, you may choose to arrive Sunday (race morning only) and print out free parking ticket for Sunday from page one of the Athlete Guide. No Refunds, No Tranfers, No Deferrals Under Any Circumstances.
absolutely NO refunds will be made for any reason. REFERRED TO AS “ENTRY FEES” ABOVE AND INCLUDES ENTRY FEES, PARTICIPANT SHIRTS, UPGRADED PRODUCTS, ANY OTHER AMENITIES, INSURANCE, AND ONLINE ADMINISTRATIVE FEES. MUST BE PRESENT TO RECEIVE ANY ITEMS as leftovers are distributed on day of race. WE DO NOT SHIP. ENTRY FEES CANNOT BE TRANSFERRED TO OTHER PERSONS OR APPLIED TOWARD future PIRANHA SPORTS EVENTS. Selling your race entry slot is strictly prohibited by piranha sports. If you do sell your race slot, you will be disqualified from the race and you, as well as the entrant who purchased your slot, will be unable to race in another Piranha Sports event for a minimum of 2 years. Piranha Sports reserves the right to reject any entry if a valid photo ID is not presented at race packet pick-up. There is NO rain date for the event. In cases of inclement weather, natural disaster, acts of God, acts of war or other unforeseen extraordinary circumstances, management reserves the right to cancel the event and/or modify the race course for safety concerns. Under such circumstances, there will be absolutely no refunds or transfer of entries to future Piranha Sports events. Each athlete must accept any such risk of their entry fee paid including other amenities paid for such as participate shirts, upgrade products, insurance, and online administrative fees. All monies collected are used to develop and produce the event, including all race supplies, staffing, and administration. We pledge to make every effort to produce a fair, safe and exciting event for all. Management reserves the right to reject or accept a race entry for any reason. | Spectator Information |
For safety of all participants, you must arrive before 7:00am and no one is allowed to leave the park until after last bicyclists comes back in around 9:30am. This includes spectators, family, and friends.
The Parade Field Area of Cape Henlopen State Park offers a large field with ideal spectator areas for watching the duathlon start, transition, bike start and finish as well as run start and finish. In the early morning and evening hours you may spot dear along the tree line. Bring the kids and make plans to spend the day at Cape Henlopen State Park walking the nature trails, enjoying the beach or fishing at the pier. This is one of the most beautiful parks in Delaware!
Parking
Spectator (as well as athlete) parking is available at Bath House parking area. Parking attendants will be available to assist you with parking. In order to prompt a safe bike portion of the race, we ask that you do not enter and/or leave the park once the race has begun. If you do need to enter/leave during the bike portion of the race, please do so with extreme care. The bikers will have the right of way while riding on park grounds.
Athlete Support
Bring your cow bells, noise makers, posters, banners, and other items to cheer on your favorite athlete. Please keep in mind that spectators are not allowed to provide any outside assistance to the athletes. Outside assistance can result in penalties and possible disqualification. Outside assistance can include but is not limited to: transition area assistance, running or riding along with the athlete (pacing), handing off water bottles, etc. The Piranha Sports staff and volunteers will provide assistance as needed and allowed. As well, there will be no time during the event when spectators will be allowed in the secure transition area. If your athlete forgot an item for the transition area, please ask a Piranha Sports Staff member or volunteer to assist you in getting that item to the athlete.
Spectator Control
The Piranha Sports Staff and volunteers have your athlete’s safety and security as their primary responsibility. Therefore, there may be times during the course of the event that we will need to provide directions to spectators if we feel that the athletes do not have a clear and unobstructed path. Please pay close attention to these directions/instructions so that we are able to maintain the safety of course and athletes.
Kids and Dogs
The Piranha Sports Staff loves having kids and dogs at the events. The kids are our future and the dogs are just great. If you do bring your children and/or pets, please keep a close eye on them. Do not allow them to venture onto any of the roadways particularly near the mount/dismount area. As well, if your children bring bikes, please ensure that they are wearing helmets at all times.
Post Race Food
Just as a reminder, the food and beverages provided by Piranha Sports are for athletes and volunteers only.

Cape Henlopen is a State Park and a take-in/take-out policy is in effect.
