| In Memory of Matt McCulley |
Matt McCulley was a 35 year old husband and father of 3 beautiful girls. He was a special and unique son, brother, and friend to many.
As an avid triathlete, runner and coach, Matt had a vision to develop a triathlon in his favorite vacation town, which would benefit two very special organizations: The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund and Sea Isle City's VFW Post 1963.
When asked why he wanted to donate his time, energy and support, he simply responded, "I have only one goal: to give something back to the veterans who have fought in our previous battles and those who fight in today's wars."
Matt created TRI for Our Veterans to show his appreciation for all of those who have, and continue, to serve our country each day.
On January 12, 2010, Matt suddenly passed away. He touched so many lives, in such a short time, and it is his family's wish to keep his legacy alive. Matt will be greatly missed, but his spirit will live on. |

Athlete & Veteran Support
One of our goals is to keep the Memorial in Memorial Day Weekend. Please show your pride and bring your American flags with you. Cow bells, noise makers, posters, banners, and other items are also great ways to cheer on your favorite athlete or veteran. Please keep in mind that spectators are not allowed to provide any outside assistance to the athletes. Outside assistance can result in penalties and possible disqualification. Outside assistance can include but is not limited to: transition area assistance, running or riding along with the athlete (pacing), handing off water bottles, etc. Our volunteers will provide assistance as needed and allowed. Further, there will be no time during the event when spectators will be allowed in the secure transition area. If your athlete forgot an item for the transition area, please ask a volunteer to assist you in getting that item to the athlete.
Additionally, many of our volunteers during this race are veterans. Sea Isle City’s VFW Post 1963 is a proud sponsor and they have provided an enormous amount of assistance. Please stop and thank them for their service to our country.
Finally, a number of military and veteran organizations have been invited to participate in the race. Team Semper Fi, The US Naval Academy, and a number of others will be sending athletes to participate. Please be sure to give them a hardy cheer while on the course.
Spectator Control
Our volunteers have your athlete’s safety and security as their primary responsibility. Therefore, there may be times during the course of the event that we will need to provide directions to spectators if we feel that the athletes do not have a clear and unobstructed path. Please pay close attention to these directions/instructions so that we are able to maintain the safety of course and athletes.
Kids and Dogs
Our volunteers love having kids and dogs at the events. The kids are our future and the dogs are just great. If you do bring your children and/or pets, please keep a close eye on them. Do not allow them to venture onto any of the roadways particularly near the mount/dismount area. As well, if your children bring bikes, please ensure that they are wearing helmets at all times.
Post Race Food
Just as a reminder, the food and beverages provided by Tri for Our Veterans are for athletes and volunteers only.
