THIS IS A STATE PARK LAKE AND PROPERTY.  PLEASE ADHERE PARK'S RULES:

ABSOLUTELY NO SWIMMING IN LAKE PRIOR TO EVENT AS NO LIFEGUARDS ARE ON DUTY

If you violate any of these rules, you will be banned from the race and no refund will be issued.

Water temperature in the past has been around 75 degrees.

Run Race Belts - Allows you to attach your run bib #s and a quick get away in transition area by affixing number and belt via belt clip.  Will be handed out at race packet pickup.  Cost:  $10.00.

Donation to Lums Pond State Park - Help Lums Pond State Park with a donation.  100% of your donation minus $1 processing fee will go to the state Park.  Choose from $10, $20, or $50. 

16 or 8 week training program - Designed by our coaching partner Mid-Atlantic Multisport (www.midatlanticmultisport.com), has been created specifically for athletes preparing for the Lums Pond Triathlon and Duathlon.

Swim - 1/2 mile -

  • Expected water temperature around 68-70.  Westsuits allowed per USA Triathlon Rules.

Run - 2 miles - duathlon's firat leg - Out and back course.  Flat and Fast.

  • Start near transition area.  Simulataneous start with the triathlon's first wave.
  • Stay to the right of each other.  Some grass and some paved road.
  • Run into Transition Area

Bike - 19.5 miles - Flat and Fast.

  • Exit Transition area and head out the main entrance of Lums Pond.
  • Right out of Main Entrance of Lums Pond onto Howell School Road.
  • Right onto Route 71 (Red Lion Road).  Sharp turn!!  Slow down!!
  • Left onto Chesapeake City Road.
  • Right onto Frazer Road.
  • Left onto Denny Road.  Sharp turn!!  Slow down!!
  • Left onto Steele Road.
  • Left onto Chesapeake City Road.
  • Right onto Route 71 (Red Lion Road)
  • Left onto Howell School Road before the RR tracks.
  • Left into Main Entrance of Lums Pond and head back to beach are (area #1) at the Transition Area.

Run - 3 miles - final leg for both duathlon and triathlon.  Out and back course.

Saturday, August 14, 2010

  • 10:00am-12:00pm - Immediately following the kids race, Lums Pond Youth Triathlon.  Early packet pickup at the beach area (Area #1) of Lums Pond State Park.  1068 Howell School Road, Bear, DE  19701.
  • 11:00am - First Timers Meeting.  "Open to all registered participants."  This is an opportunity to review logistics of the race with a Piranha Sports staff member.  It will involve reviewing packets, chip timing, transition area, rules, and tips.
  • BRING YOUR BIKE AND HELMET for optional inspection at early packet pickup. 

Sunday, August 15, 2010

  • 6:00am - 7:15am - LAST MINUTE BIKE AND HELMET optional inspections.
  • 6:00am - 7:15am - Transition area opened.  Located in Area #1 of Lums Pond State Park.  Late packet pickup.  Body marking.
  • 7:15am - Mandatory pre-race meeting.   Transition area closed.  All athletes must clear transition area. 
  • 7:30am - National Anthem.
  • 7:45am - Wave 1 = Duathlon's First Run - ALL DUATHLETES start at the same time in a mass start.
  • 7:55am - Wave 2 = TRIATHLETES Wave Starts. Men 39 and Under.  Red Caps.
  • 8:00am - Wave 3 = Men 40 and Over.  White Caps
  • 8:05am - Wave 4 = Clydesdales and Athenas.  Blue Caps.
  • 8:10am - Wave 5 = Females 39 and Under.  Green Caps.
  • 8:15am - Wave 6 = Females 40 and Over.  Yellow Caps.
  • 9:45am - Official results posted.  This is your opportunity to review your own results.  Once awards ceremony begins, all results are final.
  • 10:00am - Post race party/awards.  Awards will not be mailed.
  • 10:00am - Transition area closed.

Race director/management may alter any part or distance of the event as dictated by event day conditions, such as weather.

Refund Policy
absolutely NO refunds will be made for any reason.  REFERRED TO AS “ENTRY FEES” ABOVE AND INCLUDES ENTRY FEES, PARTICIPANT SHIRTS, UPGRADED PRODUCTS, ANY OTHER AMENITIES, INSURANCE, AND ONLINE ADMINISTRATIVE FEES.  MUST BE PRESENT TO RECEIVE ANY ITEMS as leftovers are distributed on day of race.  WE DO NOT SHIP.  ENTRY FEES CANNOT BE  TRANSFERRED TO OTHER PERSONS OR APPLIED TOWARD future PIRANHA SPORTS EVENTS.  Selling your race entry slot is strictly prohibited by piranha sports. If you do sell your race slot, you will be disqualified from the race and you, as well as the entrant who purchased your slot, will be unable to race in another Piranha Sports event for a minimum of 2 years. Piranha Sports reserves the right to reject any entry if a valid photo ID is not presented at race packet pick-up.  There is NO rain date for the event.  In cases of inclement weather, natural disaster, acts of God, acts of war or other unforeseen extraordinary circumstances, management reserves the right to cancel the event and/or modify the race course for safety concerns. Under such circumstances, there will be absolutely no refunds or transfer of entries to future Piranha Sports events. Each athlete must accept any such risk of their entry fee paid including other amenities paid for such as participate shirts, upgrade products, insurance, and online administrative fees.  All monies collected are used to develop and produce the event, including all race supplies, staffing, and administration. We pledge to make every effort to produce a fair, safe and exciting event for all.  Management reserves the right to reject or accept a race entry for any reason.  By signing up for this race, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to the terms listed on this page.

Spectator Information
Lums Pond State Park ~ Area #1 offers a large field with ideal spectator areas for watching the swim, transition, bike start and finish as well as run start and finish. Bring the kids and make plans to spend the day at Lums Pond enjoying activities such as fishing, paddle boats, picnic area and playground.

Parking
Spectator (as well as athlete) parking is available at Area #1 and Area #2 at Lums Pond State Park. Parking attendants will be available to assist you with parking. Also, please be aware that once the race begins, the road leading in and out of Lums Pond State Park will be used by participants as it is part of the race course.

Athlete Support
Bring your cow bells, noise makers, posters, banners, and other items to cheer on your favorite athlete. Please keep in mind that spectators are not allowed to provide any outside assistance to the athletes. Outside assistance can result in penalties and possible disqualification. Outside assistance can include but is not limited to: transition area assistance, running or riding along with the athlete (pacing), handing off water bottles, etc. The Piranha Sports staff and volunteers will provide assistance as needed and allowed. As well, there will be no time during the event when spectators will be allowed in the secure transition area. If your athlete forgot an item for the transition area, please ask a Piranha Sports Staff member or volunteer to assist you in getting that item to the athlete.

Spectator Control
The Piranha Sports Staff and volunteers have your athlete’s safety and security as their primary responsibility. Therefore, there may be times during the course of the event that we will need to provide directions to spectators if we feel that the athletes do not have a clear and unobstructed path. Please pay close attention to these directions/instructions so that we are able to maintain the safety of every athlete.

Kids and Dogs
The Piranha Sports Staff loves having kids and dogs at the events. The kids are our future and the dogs are just great. If you do bring your children and/or pets, please keep a close eye on them. Do not allow them to venture onto any of the roadways particularly near the mount/dismount area. As well, if your children bring bikes, please ensure that they are wearing helmets at all times.

Just as a reminder, the food and beverages provided by Piranha Sports are for athletes and volunteers only.

Lums Pond is a State Park and a take-in/take-out policy is in effect. Please be sure to take all trash with you and help keep the park clean.
