If you violate any of these rules, you will be banned from the race and no refund will be issued.

Course

Swim - 1 mile - in the mouth of the Susquehanna River and Chespeake Bay.  Typically, it's calm.

  • Expected water temperature to be around 72 degrees.
  • Direction of swim course determined on race morning depending on conditions.

Bike - 27 miles -  through Perryville and heading towards the Conowingo Dam and back to the park.  Hilly and technical bike course.

  • Exit Transition area and leave park onto Firestone Road (now called IKEA Way).
  • Left onto Broad Street (Route 7).  "Broad Street runs from the Perryville Fire Company to Rogers Tavern."
  • Right onto Roundhouse Drive at Rogers Tavern.
  • Roundhouse Drive eventually becomes Frenchtown Road.
  • Right onto Sumpter Drive.  Sumpter Drive turns into Clayton Street.
  • Left onto 222 (get into the right shoulder heading uphill).
  • At the Reservoir Road intersection (Perryville Prime Outlets) take a right onto Blythedale Road.
  • Go through the underpass of I95 and at the fork in the road, take a -
  • Right onto Principio Road (street sign missing).
  • Left onto Jackson Park Road.
  • At the "T", take a -
  • Right onto Craigtown Road (street sign missing).
  • Cross Route 276.
  • Now on Doctor Jack Road.
  • About a 1/2 mile prior to the Intersection of Doctor Jack Road and Moore Road, the steep descent area is labeled as a "NO PASS" zone on the map.  This will actually be a "Pass with caution area".  Any unsafe passing will result in a penalty as determined by USAT officials' observation and discretion.  The penalty will range from a 2 minute penalty to disqualification.  At the bottom of this steep descent, there is a sudden sharp left turn.  Safety is paramount!
  • At the bottom of the hill, take a -
  • Left onto Moore Road.
  • Left onto Susquehanna River Road (Route 222).
  • Proceed through Port Deposit and at the end of town, head up the 7 1/2% grade climb.  This is around mile 22.
  • Right onto Mt. Ararat Farm Road.  Bike water bottle exchange at top of hill (around mile 21).  Please slow down to retrieve fresh bottle.  Your "old" bottles will not be returned.  Go for about 0.3 mile, and take a -
  • Left onto Frenchtown Road (street sign missing).  Go for about a mile and it will merge right at the "Y" intersection of Cokesbury Road and Frenchtown Road (streeg sign missing).  Continue onto Frenchtown Road where it is labeled as a "NO PASS" zone on the map.  This will actually be a "Pass with caution area".  Any unsafe passing will result in a penalty as determined by USAT officials' observation and discretion.  The penalty will range from a 2 minute penalty to disqualification.  At the bottom of this steep descent, there is a sudden sharp left turn.  Safety is paramount!
  • You'll be approaching back the same way you came where Frenchtown Road becomes Roundhouse Drive.
  • At the "T" where Rogers Tavern is, you will take a -
  • Left onto Broad Street (Route 7).
  • Right onto Firestone Road (now called IKEA Way).
  • Right into Main Entrance of Perryville Community Park.

Run - 5 miles - on paved path/streets along the Susquehanna River.  Out and back course.  Flat course. 

  • Stay to the left of each other since this is an out and back course.  Water/sport drink provided approximately every mile. 
  • Upon exiting transition area, run along the river, through the VA grounds along "Avenue A" (some signs missing).  Proceed along the river along Avenue A until you leave the main entrance of the VA grounds and -
  • Turn left on the walking path at Rogers Tavern located at the intersection of Broad Street and Roundhouse Drive.  Do not run on Roundhouse Drive (the actual road) since bikers are heading back this way.
  • Continue to run onto Roundhouse Drive for about another mile and turn at the Route 40 bridge.  Run through the timing mats to record your turn around split.
  • Head back in the same direction and finish in the Perryville Community Park near the pavillion.

  • There will be no packet pickup on Friday.  However, you may visit the race site to review course, transition area, etc.   

Saturday, July 10, 2010

  • Parking available in the Park.  You will not be able to leave until the race is over due to the narrow and winding road heading into the park.  This road will be closed to vehicle traffic until the last biker finishes (8am until around 12 noon).  If you need to leave early, please plan accordingly and park at the Perryville Fire Company parking lot located about 2 miles from the park.
  • 6:00am - 7:30am - Packet pickup & Body Marking at the pavillion in Perryville Community Park.   LAST MINUTE BIKE AND HELMET optional inspections.
  • 6:00am - 7:30am - Transition area opened.  Located in the Perryville Community Park.  Late packet pickup.  Body marking.
  • 7:30am - Mandatory pre-race meeting.  Transition Area Closed - all must clear the transition area.
  • 7:45am - National Anthem.
  • 8:00am - Swim - 1st Wave.  Men 39 and Under.  Red Caps.
  • 8:05am - 2nd Wave.  Men 40 and Over.  White Caps.
  • 8:10am - 3rd Wave.  Clydesdales; Physically Challenged; Females 39 and Under.  Blue Caps.
  • 8:15am - 4th Wave.  Females 40 and Over; Athenas.  Green Caps. 
  • 11:30am - Official Results Posted. This is your opportunity to review your own results.  Once awards ceremony begins, all results are final.
  • 11:45am - Post race party/awards.  Awards will not be mailed.
  • 11:45pm - Transition area closed.

Race director/management may alter any part or distance of the event as dictated by event day conditions, such as weather.

Refund Policy
absolutely NO refunds will be made for any reason.  REFERRED TO AS “ENTRY FEES” ABOVE AND INCLUDES ENTRY FEES, PARTICIPANT SHIRTS, UPGRADED PRODUCTS, ANY OTHER AMENITIES, INSURANCE, AND ONLINE ADMINISTRATIVE FEES.  MUST BE PRESENT TO RECEIVE ANY ITEMS as leftovers are distributed on day of race.  WE DO NOT SHIP.  ENTRY FEES CANNOT BE  TRANSFERRED TO OTHER PERSONS OR APPLIED TOWARD future PIRANHA SPORTS EVENTS.  Selling your race entry slot is strictly prohibited by piranha sports. If you do sell your race slot, you will be disqualified from the race and you, as well as the entrant who purchased your slot, will be unable to race in another Piranha Sports event for a minimum of 2 years. Piranha Sports reserves the right to reject any entry if a valid photo ID is not presented at race packet pick-up.  There is NO rain date for the event.  In cases of inclement weather, natural disaster, acts of God, acts of war or other unforeseen extraordinary circumstances, management reserves the right to cancel the event and/or modify the race course for safety concerns. Under such circumstances, there will be absolutely no refunds or transfer of entries to future Piranha Sports events. Each athlete must accept any such risk of their entry fee paid including other amenities paid for such as participate shirts, upgrade products, insurance, and online administrative fees.  All monies collected are used to develop and produce the event, including all race supplies, staffing, and administration. We pledge to make every effort to produce a fair, safe and exciting event for all.  Management reserves the right to reject or accept a race entry for any reason.  By signing up for this race, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to the terms listed on this page.

Spectator Information
Perryville Community Park offers an ideal location for spectators. The large field offers numerous places for you to watch the athletes enter and exit the water, transition areas, bike course and run course. Bring the kids as there is a playground to keep them occupied during the event.

Parking
Spectator (as well as athlete) parking is available at Perryville Community Park. Parking attendants will be available to assist you with parking. Also, please be aware that once the race begins, the road leading in and out of the Perryville Community Park will be closed to vehicle traffic in order to ensure the safety of the athletes starting and finishing the bike. The road will be closed from approximately 8:00 am to 12:00 noon. If you are unable to stay for the duration of the event, please plan accordingly and park at the Perryville Fire Company parking lot located about 2 miles from the park.

Athlete Support
Bring your cow bells, noise makers, posters, banners, and other items to cheer on your favorite athlete. Please keep in mind that spectators are not allowed to provide any outside assistance to the athletes. Outside assistance can result in penalties and possible disqualification. Outside assistance can include but is not limited to: transition area assistance, running or riding along with the athlete (pacing), handing off water bottles, etc. The Piranha Sports staff and volunteers will provide assistance as needed and allowed. As well, there will be no time during the event when spectators will be allowed in the secure transition area. If your athlete forgot an item for the transition area, please ask a Piranha Sports Staff member or volunteer to assist you in getting that item to the athlete.

Spectator Control
The Piranha Sports Staff and volunteers have your athlete’s safety and security as their primary responsibility. Therefore, there may be times during the course of the event that we will need to provide directions to spectators if we feel that the athletes do not have a clear and unobstructed path. Please pay close attention to these directions/instructions so that we are able to maintain the safety of every athlete.

Kids and Dogs
The Piranha Sports Staff loves having kids and dogs at the events. The kids are our future and the dogs are just great. If you do bring your children and/or pets, please keep a close eye on them. Do not allow them to venture onto any of the roadways particularly near the mount/dismount area. As well, if your children bring bikes, please ensure that they are wearing helmets at all times.

Just as a reminder, the food and beverages provided by Piranha Sports are for athletes and volunteers only.
