Swim - 1500 meters - swim directly across the river to mainland.

  • Wetsuits mandatory!!!  If you need one, go to www.wetsuitrental.com and rent directly from them for $35 plus $6 shipping.
  • Expected water temperature around 70 degrees.

Bike - 40 K.  Flat and Fast.  Scenic!!

  • Exit Transition area towards onto Clinton Street. 
  • Left onto Rt 9 Sourth at the light
  • Over grated bridge (use caution) and then over the (big) Reedy Point Bridge
  • Right onto Thorntown Road
  • Left onto Rt 9 again
  • Go through Port Penn, pass Augustine Beach
  • Stay right to Bay View Road
  • Left onto Vance Neck Road
  • Left onto Route 9 South
  • Right onto Bay View Road (Route 9 South)
  • Left onto Route 9 South and through Augustine Beach and Port Penn
  • Right onto Thornton Road
  • Left onto Route 9 South
  • Proceed over Reedy Point Bridge
  • Right onto Clinton Street to Transition Area

Run - 10K. 

  • Note:  Stay to the far right at all times on the way out and then to the far left on the way back to the finish line to avoid bicyclists.
  • Head out onto Clinton Street and continue south which becomes Cox Neck Road
  • Turn around point near Clarks Corner Road
  • Head back to Finish line near Transition Area

Race Itinerary

Friday, June 27, 2008

  • 5:00pm-8:00pm - Early packet pickup at the Gazebo in the park at the end of Clinton Street (45 Clinton Street, Delaware City, DE  19706) in Delaware City.
  • 6:00pm - First Timers Meeting.  "Open to all registered participants."  This is an opportunity to review logistics of the race with a Piranha Sports staff member.  It will involve reviewing packets, chip timing, transition area, rules, and tips. 
  • BRING YOUR BIKE AND HELMET for optional inspection at early packet pickup. 

Saturday, June 28, 2008

  • 6:00am - 6:30am - LAST MINUTE BIKE AND HELMET optional inspections.
  • 6:00am - 6:30am - Transition area opened.  Located at the Gazebo in the park at the end of Clinton Street, Delaware City, DE.  Late packet pickup.  Body marking.
  • 6:30am - Mandatory pre-race meeting.
  • 6:45am - National Anthem.
  • FERRY SCHEDULE BELOW:  Ferry takes 20 minutes round trip.  We need to get everyone over by 8:10am.  This is a suggested schedule assigned by bib #s.  Last minute changes may be made in order to get everyone over to the island in time.  Your cooperation is appreciated.  No switching your assigned ferry schedule.  If you miss it, you miss the race, no refunds.  No wetsuit - no swim.
  • 7:00am - 1st Ferry to Island.  Bib #s 1-100.
  • 7:20am - 2nd Ferry to Island.  Bib #s 101-200.
  • 7:40am - 3rd Ferry to Island.  Bib #s 201-300.
  • 8:00am - 4th Ferry to Island.  Bib #s 301+.
  • You may bring your towel, flip flops, and last minute rituals with you to island.  We will transport back to Delaware city for you in a designated area near transition area.  Please label your own bags.  Items not to forget for the island trip - wetsuit (mandatory), goggles, old sneakers/flip flops.  Do not bring your racing flats.  We will not set this up for you in transition area.
  • Water, sports drink, and porta potties (2 or 3) available on island. 
  • 8:30am - Swim - 1st Wave.  
  • 8:32am - Swim - 2nd Wave.  
  • 8:34am - Swim - 3rd Wave.  
  • 9:30am - Swim cut off time.
  • 11:30am - Official/Penalty Report Posted.
  • 11:45am -  Official results Posted.
  • 12:00pm - Post race party/awards.  Awards will not be mailed.
  • 12:00pm - Transition area closed

Race director/management may alter any part or distance of the event as dictated by event day conditions, such as weather.

Refund Policy
absolutely NO refunds will be made for any reason.  REFERRED TO AS “ENTRY FEES” ABOVE AND INCLUDES ENTRY FEES, PARTICIPANT SHIRTS, UPGRADED PRODUCTS, ANY OTHER AMENITIES, INSURANCE, AND ONLINE ADMINISTRATIVE FEES.  MUST BE PRESENT TO RECEIVE ANY ITEMS as leftovers are distributed on day of race.  WE DO NOT SHIP.  ENTRY FEES CANNOT BE  TRANSFERRED TO OTHER PERSONS OR APPLIED TOWARD future PIRANHA SPORTS EVENTS.  Selling your race entry slot is strictly prohibited by piranha sports. If you do sell your race slot, you will be disqualified from the race and you, as well as the entrant who purchased your slot, will be unable to race in another Piranha Sports event for a minimum of 2 years. Piranha Sports reserves the right to reject any entry if a valid photo ID is not presented at race packet pick-up.  There is NO rain date for the event.  In cases of inclement weather, natural disaster, acts of God, acts of war or other unforeseen extraordinary circumstances, management reserves the right to cancel the event and/or modify the race course for safety concerns. Under such circumstances, there will be absolutely no refunds or transfer of entries to future Piranha Sports events. Each athlete must accept any such risk of their entry fee paid including other amenities paid for such as participate shirts, upgrade products, insurance, and online administrative fees.  All monies collected are used to develop and produce the event, including all race supplies, staffing, and administration. We pledge to make every effort to produce a fair, safe and exciting event for all.  Management reserves the right to reject or accept a race entry for any reason.  By signing up for this race, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to the terms listed on this page.

Spectator Information

Line the streets of Delaware City to cheer on your favorite athlete!!!  After the race, stop in at Crabby Dick’s for a relaxing lunch, enjoying the view of Fort Delaware and the Delaware River.

Parking
Spectator (as well as athlete) parking is available in the parking lot behind Crabby Dicks on Washington Street as well as the streets of Delaware City.  There is no parking along Clinton Street.  In order to promote a race, we ask that you use extreme caution when driving through Delaware City.

Athlete Support
Bring your cow bells, noise makers, posters, banners, and other items to cheer on your favorite athlete.  Please keep in mind that spectators are not allowed to provide any outside assistance to the athletes.  Outside assistance can result in penalties and possible disqualification.  Outside assistance can include but is not limited to: transition area assistance, running or riding along with the athlete (pacing), handing off water bottles, etc.  The Piranha Sports staff and volunteers will provide assistance as needed and allowed.  As well, there will be no time during the event when spectators will be allowed in the secure transition area.  If your athlete forgot an item for the transition area, please ask a Piranha Sports Staff member or volunteer to assist you in getting that item to the athlete.

Spectator Control
The Piranha Sports Staff and volunteers have your athlete’s safety and security as their primary responsibility.  Therefore, there may be times during the course of the event that we will need to provide directions to spectators if we feel that the athletes do not have a clear and unobstructed path.  Please pay close attention to these directions/instructions so that we are able to maintain the safety of course and athletes.

Kids and Dogs
The Piranha Sports Staff loves having kids and dogs at the events.  The kids are our future and the dogs are just great.  If you do bring your children and/or pets, please keep a close eye on them.  Do not allow them to venture onto any of the roadways particularly near the mount/dismount area.  As well, if your children bring bikes, please ensure that they are wearing helmets at all times.
