Come to Vermont and Race Against the Best in the Northeast 

In the spirit of competition and to recognize athletes who have worked hard to reach the top of their sport, Piranha Sports is inviting all triathlon champions to race for free.  Piranha Sports is providing free entry to the first 250 triathletes that respond who have won their division or overall race in any certifiable triathlon race within the last 12 months to the Killington Triathlon on July 4th, 2009.  This is a great opportunity to race against some of the best in your division in the beautiful green mountian state.  Enjoy all that Killington has to offer.
 
Race results must be veriable through an online source or submitted in hard copy to Piranha Sports.  Please forward all requests for complimentary entry to race director, Jim Scesney at jscesney@piranha-sports.com.  You must register for this program by June 20th.
 
All levels of triathletes are welcomed, including age groupers and novices.  This will be an opportunity to toe the starting line with these champions which includes age group champions (your own peers!).

Basic rules for complimentary entry - race director and Piranha Sports has final say in determination for qualified winners.  If you are a non-USAT member, you will be required to pay the one day USAT insurance of $10.00.  Must register for this complimentary entry by June 20th.  Entries are non-transferrable.  Rules are subject to change.

Who's Racing?
The Meet of Champions shaping up to be a great opportunity to race with the best!  Racers include Tim and Cait Snow, Tim placed 10th overall at Lake Placid IM 2008 and Cait won the womens race with a record breaking marathon of 2:59! 

Other competitors include age group champions from Carolina to Maine including age group champions from 20 - 25, Niko Temple to 60 -64, Robert Rees.

Piranha Sports understands that the tough economy has forced a lot of triathletes who have trained hard all year to make some tough choices about which races or how many races they can do this season.  For a limited time until June 10th we are cutting our prices to $70 for the Sprint Triathlon and $95 for the International Distance races at Killington.

  • The Swim - In Snowshed Pond, which is fed with fresh crystal clear water from nearby Woodward Reservoir and natural mountain streams, will serve as the swim venue for the lake.  Spectators will have a great view of the course, cheering for their loved one from the iron bridge that spans the venue, which will also serve as the final quarter mile of the race.
  • The Bike - Breathtaking views of the Green Mountain State.
  • The Run - The shaded run course follows closely to the outermost edge of the Killington Golf Course over rolling terrain offering exhilirating views at a breezy 2,000 ft elevation even in July.
  • The Finish - Finish with a sprint across a rustic iron bridge to the finish line at the base of Snowshed Slope!
  • Swim, Bike, and Run - then kick back for fireworks and run.  Kick off the 4th of July by challenging yourself in the triathlon then relax and enjoy all that Killington has to offer in the summer.  Hike the Appalachian Trail, golf at the Green Mountain National Golf Course, or ride the Alpine Slide wrapping up the day with a spectacular fireworks display at night.

International Distance Triathlon:

Parking - at Ramshead Ski Lift Area.

Swim - 0.7 mile - 2 lap swim clockwise in Snowshed Pond at base of Snowshed ski area of Killington, VT.  Keep buoys to your right.

  • Wetsuits - allowed per USAT rules if water temperature is 78 degrees or less. 
  •   Need a wetsuit to rent or purchase?  Go to our sponsor, Xterra.  Click on logo. 

Bike - 30 Miles - out and back course.

  • Leaving transition area (in Snowshed parking lot)
  • Head right out onto Killington Road - this road is extremely steep, please keep safety in mind and slow down as necessary.
  • Slow down at bottom of Killington Road and make right onto U.S. Route 4
  • Stay on Route 4 until the 15 mile mark at Bridtewater Center Road, u turn here.
  • At mile 15.5, a bike bottle exchange station is available - Gatorade or Water.
  • Head back same way back to transition area.

Run - 8 miles (2 loops of the 4 mile course).

  • Water and gatorade at approximately every mile.
  • Leaving transition area
  • Head right onto Killington Road (stay to the right hand side and run with traffic on shoulder/edge of road)
  • Turn right onto Ravine Road
  • Right onto Running Brook Road
  • Right onto High Ridge Road
  • Right onto E. Mountain Road (stay on the right hand side of this road)
  • Repeat same lap by turning right onto Killington Road
  • After second lap -
  • Head back towards transition area bypassing it on the left side and head over the Snowshed Bridge to the finish line at the base of Snowshed Ski area.

Sprint Distance Triathlon:

Parking - at Ramshead Ski Lift Area.

  • Stay on Route 4 until the 7.5 mile mark about half mile before the Skyeship Ski lift area, u turn here.
  • Head back same way back to transition area.

  • Water and gatorade at approximately every mile.
  • Leaving transition area
  • Head right onto Killington Road (stay to the right hand side and run with traffic on shoulder/edge of road)
  • Turn right onto Ravine Road
  • Right onto Running Brook Road
  • Right onto High Ridge Road
  • Right onto E. Mountain Road (stay on the right hand side of this road)
  • Head back towards transition area bypassing it on the left side and head over the Snowshed Bridge to the finish line at the base of Snowshed Ski area.

Directions

Killington Resort is located in central Vermont at the junction of U.S. 4 and VT 100 North in Killington, 11 miles east of Rutland.

  • From the Killington sign on Route 4 (across from Bills' Country Store), drive 3.6 miles up the Killilngton Road to Ramshead Base Area on the right to park.  Walk your bike and triathlon equipment under the tunnel of Killington Road between Ramshead and Snowshed.  Head to Snowshed for packet pickup.

Friday July 3, 2009
  • 2:00 - 5:00 pm -  Early packet pickup at the base of Snowshed Slope adjacent the Snowshed Lodge area of Killington Resort Area. 
  • 4:00 pm - First Timers Meeting.  "Open to all registered participants."  This is an opportunity to review logistics of the race with a Piranha Sports staff member.  It will involve reviewing packets, chip timing, transition area, rules, and tips.
  • BRING YOUR BIKE AND HELMET for optional inspection at early packet pickup.

  • 6:00am - 7:30am - LAST MINUTE BIKE AND HELMET optional inspections. 
  • 6:45am - Late registration will close at this time.
  • 6:00am - 7:30am - Transition area opened in Snowshed Parking Lot.  Late packet pickup.  Body marking.
  • 7:45am - Mandatory pre-race meeting.
  • 7:50am - National Anthem.
  • Wave assignments are subject to change depending on number of participants.
  • 8:00am - Sprint Course Triathlon Starts.
  • 8:00am - Wave 1.  Swim (1 loop). Sprint Tri Participants. Red Caps.  
  • 8:30am - Wave 2 (approximate) - International Distance Starts.  International Distance Participants (2 loops).  Green Caps.
  • 11:25am - Cut off time for bike leg.  14mph average for this flat bike course if started by 8:30am.
  • 10:45am - Official/Penalty Report for Sprint Tri Posted.
  • 11:00 am - Official Results for Sprint Tri Posted.
  • 11:00am  - Post race party/awards for Sprint Course Tri.

Refund Policy
absolutely NO refunds will be made for any reason.  REFERRED TO AS “ENTRY FEES” ABOVE AND INCLUDES ENTRY FEES, PARTICIPANT SHIRTS, UPGRADED PRODUCTS, ANY OTHER AMENITIES, INSURANCE, AND ONLINE ADMINISTRATIVE FEES.  MUST BE PRESENT TO RECEIVE ANY ITEMS as leftovers are distributed on day of race.  WE DO NOT SHIP.  ENTRY FEES CANNOT BE  TRANSFERRED TO OTHER PERSONS OR APPLIED TOWARD future PIRANHA SPORTS EVENTS.  Selling your race entry slot is strictly prohibited by piranha sports. If you do sell your race slot, you will be disqualified from the race and you, as well as the entrant who purchased your slot, will be unable to race in another Piranha Sports event for a minimum of 2 years. Piranha Sports reserves the right to reject any entry if a valid photo ID is not presented at race packet pick-up.  There is NO rain date for the event.  In cases of inclement weather, natural disaster, acts of God, acts of war or other unforeseen extraordinary circumstances, management reserves the right to cancel the event and/or modify the race course for safety concerns. Under such circumstances, there will be absolutely no refunds or transfer of entries to future Piranha Sports events. Each athlete must accept any such risk of their entry fee paid including other amenities paid for such as participate shirts, upgrade products, insurance, and online administrative fees.  All monies collected are used to develop and produce the event, including all race supplies, staffing, and administration. We pledge to make every effort to produce a fair, safe and exciting event for all.  Management reserves the right to reject or accept a race entry for any reason.  By signing up for this race, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to the terms listed on this page.

Spectator Information
The Killington Triathlon at the Snowshed Ski Area offers an ideal location for spectators with a stadium feel. The large field offers numerous places for you to watch the athletes enter and exit the water from top of the bridge over the middle of the swim course, transition areas, bike course and run course.

Parking
Spectator (as well as athlete) parking is available at the Ramshead Ski Life Area. Parking attendants will be available to assist you with parking. Also, please be aware that once the race begins, the road leading in and out of the Ramshead and Snowshed Ski Area will be closed to vehicle traffic in order to ensure the safety of the athletes starting and finishing the bike and run. The road will be closed from approximately 8:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Athlete Support
Bring your cow bells, noise makers, posters, banners, and other items to cheer on your favorite athlete. Please keep in mind that spectators are not allowed to provide any outside assistance to the athletes. Outside assistance can result in penalties and possible disqualification. Outside assistance can include but is not limited to: transition area assistance, running or riding along with the athlete (pacing), handing off water bottles, etc. The Piranha Sports staff and volunteers will provide assistance as needed and allowed. As well, there will be no time during the event when spectators will be allowed in the secure transition area. If your athlete forgot an item for the transition area, please ask a Piranha Sports Staff member or volunteer to assist you in getting that item to the athlete.

Spectator Control
The Piranha Sports Staff and volunteers have your athlete’s safety and security as their primary responsibility. Therefore, there may be times during the course of the event that we will need to provide directions to spectators if we feel that the athletes do not have a clear and unobstructed path. Please pay close attention to these directions/instructions so that we are able to maintain the safety of every athlete.

Kids and Dogs
The Piranha Sports Staff loves having kids and dogs at the events. The kids are our future and the dogs are just great. If you do bring your children and/or pets, please keep a close eye on them. Do not allow them to venture onto any of the roadways particularly near the mount/dismount area. As well, if your children bring bikes, please ensure that they are wearing helmets at all times.
