Bethany Beach Kid to Raise Funds for One Fund Boston
April 25, Bethany Beach, DE – Eleven year old Bethany Beach resident Blake Hundley has an ambitious goal: to raise money for The One Fund Boston. Blake, who is in the 5th Grade at Lord Baltimore Elementary School and the son of Rick and Michele Hundley, has organized a 5k run on Friday, May 3, 2013 at 6:30pm to benefit The One Fund Boston. The One Fund Boston is a charitable group formed by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Tom Menino to help the people most affected by the tragic events that occurred at the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013.
The One Fund for Boston is a 501© corporation and portions of the registration may be tax-deductible. “We are one Boston. We are one community. As always, we will come together to help those most in need. And in the end, we will all be better for it,” Mayor Menino said.
“The attack was so unbelievable and scary to me, especially since we often do races as a family.” Blake said. “I knew right away I wanted to help the people who suffered as a result of the bombing.” Blake set to work and organized “Blake’s Run for Boston”. It is a 5k and starts in downtown Bethany Beach. Registration is $25 in advance and $30 on the day of. Runners can register at: www.BlakesRunForBoston.com.
“Not everyone is a runner and some people may not be in town that weekend, but I will gratefully accept any donations of any amounts for this worthy cause. Everyone can help the victims and their families and everyone can make a difference.” Blake said. “I have already talked to family and friends and have a few sponsors. There’s room for more, too!”
Sponsors to date include: Baja Beach Grill, Bethany Beach First Responders Triathlon-Duathlon Sponsored by Meris Properties, Bethany Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce, Creative Resource Group, Piranha Sports, and Seashore Striders.
Blake’s father and owner of Bethany Beach business Baja Beach Grill, Rick Hundley, said, “When Blake came to Michele and me for answers, and we didn’t have any. We suggested he turn his concern and sadness into positive action. He came up with the idea of the 5k and literally “ran” with it!” joked Hundley.
Blake, a straight A student and three time National Cross Country Runner Up has lots of ideas and ambition. Not only does he hope for this race to sell out, but this guy dreams big all around. When asked what is next on his to do list, “I hope to attend St. Andrews High School in Middletown, DE and University of Oregon, be a Triathlete in the 2020 Summer Olympics, and one day win the Boston Marathon myself!”
So far, The One Fund Boston has raised more than $22,000,000 with more with the help of Blake Hundley.
