Wetsuit Rule
All Piranha Sports events will allow wetsuits if the water temperature is 78 degrees or less.  Water temperatures are taken on race morning.

In the event the water temperature is 79 degrees or higher, no wetsuits will be allowed.

If you violate any of these rules, you will be banned from the race and no refund will be issued.

Swim - .31 mile - triathlon - in-water start 

  • Expected water temperature around 66-68 degrees.  Wetsuits allowed and optional if water temperature is 78 degrees or less taken on race morning.  Come prepared with a wetsuit just in case. 
  • Swim Cut Off Rule.  All participants are expected to be able to complete the swim discipline maintaining a steady consistent stroke and able to maintain on course.  Lifeguards are provided for emergency situations and to prevent swimmers from drowning.  Any swimmer who is in constant need of aid from lifeguards along the swim is considered to be a hazard to themselves and other swimmers and has not prepared properly for the race (this includes breaks, and redirection on course).  If a lifeguard at any point feels an athlete is taking too much attention, the lifeguard reserves the right to remove the athlete from the race.  This removal will result in a DNF (Did Not Finish) from the entire race (the athlete will not be allowed to compete in the bike or run) at which point athlete must hand in their timing chip to lifeguard or designated staff person. 

Run – 1.86 miles - duathlon's first leg – Rolling out and back paved course. 

  • Start near barn at Cascade Lark Park
  • Exit main entrance of Cascade Lark Park and turn left onto Snydersburg Road 
  • Stay to the right of each other
  • Near end of Snydersburg Road just before Hampstead Mexico Rd/MD-482, make a right to left U-turn
  • Head back on Snydersburg Road to private and back entrance into Cascade Lake Park
  • Run into Transition Area

Bike - 15 miles – Hilly and scenic rural roads of Carroll County.

  • Exit transition area in park and bike out west park exit.
  • Turn left at Snydersburg Rd.
  • Right at Hampstead Mexico Rd/MD-482. Sharp turn!!  Slow down!!
  • Right at Leisters Church Rd.
  • Right at Old Manchester Rd.
  • Turn left to stay on Old Manchester Rd.
  • Right at Manchester Rd/MD-27.
  • Turn right at Westminster St.
  • Sharp right at Park Ave. Sharp turn!!  Slow down!!
  • Continue on Old Fort Schoolhouse Rd.
  • Turn left at Albert Rill Rd.
  • Left at Snydersburg Rd.
  • Straight at intersection of Cape Horn Rd.
  • Left into Cascade Lake’s west park entrance. Downhill turn!! 
  • Take park road to Transition Area.

Run - 3 miles - final leg for both duathlon and triathlon.  Out and back course with portion of it being repeated twice. 

  • Stay to the left of each other as if running against traffic.  There is a short steep hill just before the finish.
  • Exit transition area and exit via private and back entrance of Cascade Lake Park
  • Beginning of Lap.  Each lap is 1.34 miles.  A total of 2 laps will be required before heading towards the finish line.  At the exit via private and back entrance of Cascade Lark Park, turn left onto Snydersburg Road.  This is the beginning of the two laps (each being 1.34 miles) required to complete a full 3 miles. 
  • Near end of Snydersburg Road just before Hampstead Mexico Rd/MD-482, make a left to right U-turn
  • Head back on Snydersburg Road to private and back entrance into Cascade Lake Park.
  • Repeat the Lap a 2nd time.
  • When you reach the private and back entrance into Cascade Lake Park after 2 laps, you will then head towards the finish line with an uphill finish. 
Run course is all paved except finishing sprint which is on some loose gravel.

  • NO PETS ALLOWED.
  • 6:00pm-8:00pm - Early packet pickup at transition area at Cascade Lake, 3000 Snydersburg Rd., Hampstead, MD 21074.
  • 6:30pm - First Timers Meeting.  "Open to all registered participants."  This is an opportunity to review logistics of the race with a Piranha Sports staff member and/or our Series Coaching Sponsor, Bricks MultiSport Coaching.  It will involve reviewing packets, chip timing, transition area, rules, and tips.
  • BRING YOUR BIKE AND HELMET for optional inspection at early packet pickup.

  • 5:15am - 6:30am - Transition area opened.  Late packet pickup.  Body marking.   LAST MINUTE BIKE AND HELMET optional inspections. 
  • 6:30am - Mandatory pre-race meeting.
  • 6:45am - National Anthem.  
  • 7:00am - 1st Wave.  Duathlon Run's First Leg - Mass Start including Du Relays.
  • 7:05am - 2nd Wave.  Triathletes.  Men 39 and Under; Clydesdales; Physically Challenged Males.  Orange Caps.
  • 7:10am - 3rd Wave.  Triathletes.  Men 40 and Over.  Blue Caps.
  • 7:15am - 4th Wave.  Triathletes.  All Females; Athenas; Physically Challenged Females; All Relays.  Green Caps.
  • 8:30am - Officiall/Penalty Report posted.
  • 8:45am - Official Results Posted.  This is your opportunity to review your own results.  Once awards ceremony begins, all results are final.
  • 9:00am - Post race party/awards.  Awards will not be mailed.

Refund Policy
No Refunds, No Tranfers, No Deferrals Under Any Circumstances.  

absolutely NO refunds will be made for any reason.  REFERRED TO AS “ENTRY FEES” ABOVE AND INCLUDES ENTRY FEES, PARTICIPANT SHIRTS, UPGRADED PRODUCTS, ANY OTHER AMENITIES, INSURANCE, AND ONLINE ADMINISTRATIVE FEES.  MUST BE PRESENT TO RECEIVE ANY ITEMS as leftovers are distributed on day of race.  WE DO NOT SHIP.  ENTRY FEES CANNOT BE  TRANSFERRED TO OTHER PERSONS OR APPLIED TOWARD future PIRANHA SPORTS EVENTS.  Selling your race entry slot is strictly prohibited by piranha sports.
If you do sell your race slot, you will be disqualified from the race and you, as well as the entrant who purchased your slot, will be unable to race in another Piranha Sports event for a minimum of 2 years. Piranha Sports reserves the right to reject any entry if a valid photo ID is not presented at race packet pick-up.  There is NO rain date for the event.  In cases of inclement weather, natural disaster, acts of God, acts of war or other unforeseen extraordinary circumstances, management reserves the right to cancel the event and/or modify the race course for safety concerns. Under such circumstances, there will be absolutely no refunds or transfer of entries to future Piranha Sports events. Each athlete must accept any such risk of their entry fee paid including other amenities paid for such as participate shirts, upgrade products, insurance, and online administrative fees.  All monies collected are used to develop and produce the event, including all race supplies, staffing, and administration. We pledge to make every effort to produce a fair, safe and exciting event for all.  Management reserves the right to reject or accept a race entry for any reason.  By signing up for this race, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to the terms listed on this page.

Spectator Information
Parking 
Free Parking available on the Cascade Lake grounds. 

Athlete Support
Bring your cow bells, noise makers, posters, banners, and other items to cheer on your favorite athlete. Please keep in mind that spectators are not allowed to provide any outside assistance to the athletes. Outside assistance can result in penalties and possible disqualification. Outside assistance can include but is not limited to: transition area assistance, running or riding along with the athlete (pacing), handing off water bottles, etc. The Piranha Sports staff and volunteers will provide assistance as needed and allowed. As well, there will be no time during the event when spectators will be allowed in the secure transition area. If your athlete forgot an item for the transition area, please ask a Piranha Sports Staff member or volunteer to assist you in getting that item to the athlete.

Spectator Control
The Piranha Sports Staff and volunteers have your athlete’s safety and security as their primary responsibility. Therefore, there may be times during the course of the event that we will need to provide directions to spectators if we feel that the athletes do not have a clear and unobstructed path. Please pay close attention to these directions/instructions so that we are able to maintain the safety of every athlete.

Kids and Dogs
NO PETS ALLOWED IN THIS PARK. The Piranha Sports Staff loves having kids at the events. The kids are our future. If you do bring your children, please keep a close eye on them. Do not allow them to venture onto any of the roadways particularly near the mount/dismount area. As well, if your children bring bikes, please ensure that they are wearing helmets at all times.
