Hoboken Pump and Run TIME CHANGE, Back On at NOON

Dear Hoboken Pump & Run Participants:

The City of Hoboken has now allowed us to move the race time to noon with the original itinerary (see below).  We apologize for any confusion or inconvenience this may have caused, but the city had originally double booked our event. 

EVENT START TIME IS NOW 12:00PM PROMPT WITH BENCH PRESS PERFORMED AT PIER A PARK.  PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY TO PICK UP YOUR PACKET BETWEEN 11:00AM AND 11:45AM.

EVENT IS LOCATED AT PIER A PARK and not at the gym.  Scroll to bottom of email about getting to Pier A Park.

We are excited about this inaugural event.  We've just been informed ONCE AGAIN THAT WE ARE ABLE TO GO BACK TO THE ORIGNAL TIME AS PLANNED AS OUTLINED BELOW:

11:00am -11:45am - Last minute Race day Registrations and packet pickup (pick up your bibs first)

EVENT START TIME 12:00Pm-12:45pm- Bench Pressing.  For each completed lift, a 30 second per rep will be deducted from the competitor's final 5K Time.  The maximum deduction is 15 minutes or 30 total reps.

Men 39 and Under - bench press 135 lbs.

Men 40 and Over - bench press 115 lbs.

Women 39 and Under - bench press 65 lbs.

Women 40 and Over - bench press 45 lbs.

1:00pm  - 5K Run Starts

1:45pm - Awards Ceremony Begins

                Top 2 for each division as follows:

Getting to Pier A Park

From NYC PATH  Go to the 33rd Street PATH, located at 33rd St.& 6th Ave, with entrances at 32nd St.& 6th Ave and 34th St & Broadway.  At the turnstiles, go to the right most track, marked HOB, and take the train to last stop, Hoboken Train Station.  As you come up to street level, you will enter the NJ Transit Bus Stop, which is a cobblestone street area.  With the Hudson river to your right, proceed across the cobblestone area to a brick walkway butting up against the river.  Make a RIGHT as you pass the ferry launch and come up next to the park's fountains and proceed down to the river's edge to the staging area.  The park walkway proceeds around the perimeter of the green.

 

From NYC Driving: NOTE - Parking for Pier A, can be a task.  Free Street Parking is available around Sinatra Park or once on Washington St, go up to 5th St and make a right on to Hudson St.  There are 3 paid parking garages on your leftTake the Holland Tunnel, get into the right lane and make a right at the first light (Marin Blvd).  Take Marin BLVD until it dead ends and make a right on to Observer Highway.  Proceed 2 lights and make a left at the second light on to Washington St.  

 

NJ DRIVING - TURNPIKE NORTH:  NOTE - Parking for Pier A, can be a task.  Free Street Parking is available around Sinatra Park or once on Washington St, go up to 5th St and make a right on to Hudson St.  There are 3 paid parking garages on your left.Take the I-78 EAST LOCAL to Turnpike North. Bear Left at the Toll Plaza to take the Newark Bay Extension (14, a, b, c).  Continue past toll plaza, to Holland Tunnel exit, last exit off of extension.  Make a LEFT on to Jersey Ave.  Jersey Ave dead ends at the NJ TRANSIT train bridge.  Merge RIGHT into NEWARK ST.  Follow NEWARK ST and it will change into OBSERVER HWY at the Hoboken firehouse.  At the second light past the firehouse, make a LEFT on to WASHINGTON ST.

  

NJ DRIVING - RT. 3 EAST: Take RT 3 E toward the Lincoln Tunnel.  After passing exits for US1/US9 & Kennedy BLVD,  get into the right most lane.  Take the Weehawken/Hoboken exit, "Last Exit in NJ" and bear into the right lane.  At the second light, bear right on to Boulevard East and get into the left most lane, following signs for Hoboken at the next light.  Proceed for several blocks along this street and you will dead end into Park St and 14 St with the Malibu Diner on your right.  Make a left on to 14th St.  Proceed 3 blocks and make a right on to Washington St.  See above for parking directions.  Make a left on to 5th St for garage parking or a left on to 3rd St to proceed to Sinatra Park.  If parking at Sinatra Park, please consult the Sinatra Park page for further directions from RT 3 E.

Directions to Pier A Park

This event will be chipped timed by Piranha Sports, LLC utilizing the MyLaps Bib Tag.  When registering, you will also be given the option to make additional donations.

Rules

Rules: * A runner's time will be based on how many times he/she can bench press the weight for their gender and age category. * There are four lifting divisions * Runners not competing for prize money, may scale their weight

 

Men 39 and under - Contestants will bench press 135lbs

Men 40 and over - Contestants will bench press 115lbs

Women 39 and under - Contestants will bench press 65lbs

Women 40 and over - Contestants will bench press 45lbs

 

Time Deduction

30 seconds per rep will be deducted from the competitor's final 5k time for the Pump and Run Division. The maximum deduction is 15 minutes (or 30 total reps)

 

Lifting Technique

Lift starts with the bar in the extended position. Feet must remain in contact with the floor throughout the lift (no hooking bench support with feet/legs). Bar must touch the chest and be fully extended on each press - stopping terminates the lift. No bouncing bar off chest. Shoulder and rear must stay in contact with the bench during lifts. If necessary, plates may be placed under lifters' feet. No baggy clothing, belts, wraps or lifting suits. Decisions of our judges are final.

 

Lifting Time

Participants will begin by completing their max rep bench press. Registration and Bench Press will begin at 8:00am. Race will commence after all racers have completed their lift at 9:00am.
